Award Winning Historic Preservation in Harvard Square

Located just off the prominent intersection of Brattle Street and Massachusetts Avenue, 18 – 24 John F. Kennedy Street sits in the heart of Harvard Square just steps from the iconic Out of Town News Stand.

Originally built in 1910, the building featured four dramatic arched stone openings along the street. Over the years, two of the arches were covered and infilled to accommodate a retail tenant. The remaining two underwent renovations using stone that did not match the original, resulting in an inconsistent façade. The building’s current owner sought out Analogue Studio for our preservation expertise to revitalize the building and restore the façade to its original design. Restoration work included removing wooden storefronts that had been covering the arches, repairing the masonry and stonework to match the original materials, and creating accessible entrances to the retail spaces.

As a gateway to Harvard Square, the mindful restoration of the historic fabric of JFK Street reflects a modern, vibrant city that values its significant place in our country’s history.
