• Northeastern University EXP

Northeastern’s EXP building is a new 350,000 SF building dedicated to research, innovation, and entrepreneurship that pioneers new flexible institutional models for allocating lab, teaching and office space. As the furniture, fixtures, and specifications consultant for Payette, we’ve embraced this flexibility in each of the spaces we design.

The EXP building contains offices, a faculty club, event spaces, meeting areas, classrooms, and labs across its eight levels. In each area, we’ve designed the furniture to accommodate a variety of uses. Hoteling offices can be reconfigured for one or two people, or used as a conference room, all with the same furniture. Shared open work areas can shift between workstations, meeting and lounge spaces. Conference rooms can be reconfigured for small breakouts or large meetings. And lounges can offer relaxation, and support individual or group work.

We collaborated with the President of Northeastern University to create a cutting-edge Executive Suite. This space features a variety of areas including a reception, flex offices, an executive office, and both large and small conference rooms. To meet the President’s call to establish a new paradigm for flexible work in all spaces, we carefully selected furniture that can be easily reconfigured to support individual and group work in all the offices, as well as informal group gatherings and formal board meetings in the conference rooms. Our goal was to create the ultimate flexible workspace that empowers employees to accomplish their best, most efficient work.
