St. Ann’s Home Jack and Marci Williams Center
Crucial care for vulnerable children
The Jack and Marci Williams Center was designed specifically for the St. Ann’s Community-Based Acute Treatment (CBAT) program, which is a short-term stabilization program that serves as an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization. The building houses administrative offices and residential dormitories, serves as an expansion of the historic Main Institutional building, and provides a visual extension of the nearby Adolescent Center. Interior social spaces foster community and enhance the support that is critical to the success of the CBAT program, and preparing youth for their return to home.
The building is sited at the edge of campus between a residential neighborhood and a wooded area; and was oriented to take advantage of the views of the natural landscape. In addition to the indoor common areas, a steel mesh-enclosed exterior deck provides a visual connection to the exterior landscape, offers a safe retreat for the residents, and evokes the feeling of being in a tree house. Floor to ceiling windows in the dining area let in an abundance of natural light which, along with fresh air are crucial elements of health and wellness.
An enclosed bridge ties the Center to the main building, creating connection with the campus.
