Video-software company, Wistia, reached out to us when they had matured past their original startup space. They wanted to create an environment that would support multiple workstyles, elevate their brand and reflect the company’s quirky creativity.

Because Wistia not only supports online video but creates content as well, the entire office doubles as a studio. With every surface as a potential background, our challenge was to lose the untidy mess while retaining the creative one.

Although every employee has an assigned desk, spaces for collaboration to support a variety of workstyles are essential to keep the creativity flowing. Rather than focus on density, Wistia wanted to provide the right spaces to allow employees to do their best work.

We created collaboration pods open to the work areas, but distinguished from the rest of the space by bold colors, unique lighting, and a variety of lounge-type furniture selections. Each pod is anchored by conference rooms in a variety of sizes, from 1-person phone rooms and intimate one-on-one rooms, to 6-person conference rooms.

It was also important to Wistia to keep the character of the building— a 3-story brick and steel warehouse with wood floors built in the 1920s— visible wherever we could. To accomplish this, we worked closely with acousticians to overcome myriad sound issues, and with the engineers to upgrade the HVAC systems without taking over the ceiling space. The result is a diverse mix of communal and individual workspaces.
