A new landmark dining experience in Harvard Square

In the early days of the pandemic, Chef Jason Doo wanted to create a landmark that celebrates the Chinese-American dining experience he had grown up with working in his family’s restaurant. Chef Doo had two key insights into how restaurants would be changed by the pandemic and came to Analogue Studio to help realize them: while fast-casual, delivery and takeout trends would accelerate, in-person dining would be driven by human connection and escape from the everyday. In response, the two levels of Wusong Road offer very different experiences. The Lantern Room serves quick plates and takeout while the Tiki Bar invites guests to linger over shared plates and decadent drinks.

Analogue Studio worked with specialized artists and purveyors to source handmade elements and unique furniture, lighting and decor throughout the restaurant. Guests are greeted by a hand-carved dragon overlooking the portal to the Lantern Room. The portal also houses a host station to manage the flow of guests, takeout and delivery orders. The Lantern Room’s lacquered lattices, glowing lanterns and lush plants evoke a Hong Kong street cafe and complement decor sourced from around the globe.

With flickering lights and a carved stone wall surrounding a giant tree, a theatrical stair transports guests from city life to the Tiki Bar. Anticipation builds in the darkened waiting area before entering the bar through a dramatic oversized mask. Dinner guests settle into stylish rattan lounge seating in intimate nooks lined with tropical scenes and nestled under thatched roofs lit by rope and glass pendant lights.
